Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno hopes that Indonesia will become the world's Muslim fashion center because it has capital and a lot of potential. Such as human resources, markets, to quality fashion designers.
Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno when he was a keynote speaker at the Indonesian Islamic Youth Economic Forum (ISYEF): Global Indonesian Muslim Fashion which was held virtually, Sunday (27/6), explained that the contribution of the creative economy sector to Indonesia's GDP has become the third largest in the world after the United States with Hollywood and South Korea with K-POP.
“The creative economy sector has contributed a GDP of Rp 1,100 trillion out of 17 creative economy sub-sectors, which are dominated by fashion, culinary, and crafts. The number of our Muslim community so far has only been a market and we actually import a lot of halal products," said Sandiaga as quoted from a press release, Monday (28/6).
"That's why we have to be players, not spectators, we want to make Indonesia or Jakarta the Moslem fashion capital of the world. Because we have it all. Both the designer, the market is there, we need support from all to make it happen," he added.
Furthermore, Sandiaga cites Opus Data which states that of the total GDP of Rp. 1,100 trillion, Rp. 175 trillion is contributed by the fashion subsector. A total of 33.4 percent of creative and creative actors in Indonesia come from the fashion sub-sector where the total reaches 2.5 million people. The export value of the fashion sub-sector is also the largest, totaling US$15 million in 2019.
“However, Indonesia is the third country with the most consumers of Muslim clothing after Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The market is big, there are many entrepreneurs but not many ecosystems have been developed. I believe today's young people can be the locomotive of future change. Because it is now more open, more inclusive, and the Islamic economic movement is most enjoyed by young people," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the Muslim fashion designers, Nanida Jenahara Nasution explained, Muslim fashion products in the country have very good quality for the global market. But there needs to be support so that these products can be accepted and get a place in the hearts of local people. In addition, it requires collaboration from all parties so that Muslim products made can get a wide market.
"What's important is how to stay updated with what's trending, and now is the time for collaboration. We can't want to be the one that happens alone. Let's join hands to succeed together," he said.
