Indonesia received the flag for the 2022 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) from the previous host Singapore on Saturday (26/6). In addition to being a meeting place for high school students from all over the world to take part in the IOI computer science competition, Indonesia wants to invite young people from all over the world to see the beauty of Indonesia, said the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore in a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.
The handover of the flag to host the 34th IOI was carried out by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore, Gan Siow Huang, to the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, Suryo Pratomo, at the Orchard Hotel."I congratulate Singapore for being a good host to IOI in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This once again demonstrates Singapore's ability to maintain a balance between the obligation to control COVID-19 and maintain education for young people in preparation for the future. them," said Ambassador Suryo. Learning from Singapore's experience, according to Suryo, Indonesia has started to prepare for the implementation of IOI next year. At least the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology has formed an implementing committee and designated Yogyakarta as the host city. "Of course we hope that the COVID-19 condition next year will be better. If the competition can be held face to face, then Indonesia not only wants to invite high school children from all over the world to compete with each other in skills and intelligence, but we want to introduce cultural wealth and the beauty of Indonesia," said Suryo.
The Indonesian Ambassador said that the IOI competition is more than just a matter of winning or losing, what is more important is participation. "In IOI it is even more important to build friendship and networking," he said. Ambassador Suryo added, for Indonesia, the IOI is expected to help formulate the 2021-2045 Digital Indonesia Roadmap. In addition, IOI is also expected to inspire Indonesian students in mastering computational thinking so that they can eventually create future Indonesian leaders in digital transformation who still rely on the nation's history.Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ainun Na'im invites the entire community to pray that the COVID-19 pandemic will end soon, so that the IOI in 2022 can be carried out offline.
