Indonesia is seeking to draw global investment into its maritime and fisheries sectors through the upcoming Ocean Impact Summit (OIS) 2026 — set for June 8–9 in Bali. The government’s multilateral cooperation team, led by Desri Yanti from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, says the summit is backed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and designed to give Indonesia direct access to international investors and business leaders. Officials hope the event will generate investment commitments and private-sector partnerships focused on the blue economy, while shifting the narrative around maritime issues from simply conservation to using marine resources as a driver for innovation, job creation, and sustainable economic growth.
As the world’s largest archipelagic country, Indonesia aims to use this summit to strengthen its leadership in the global maritime and fisheries sectors and position itself as a hub for the maritime economy — not just regionally but worldwide. The event is expected to produce tangible outcomes, such as financial commitments, partnerships with businesses, and financing initiatives that support future development of the blue economy. The WEF’s support was formalized through a Letter of Intent signed in Davos, Switzerland, between Indonesia’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and senior WEF officials, underscoring international collaboration toward this vision.
