Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) continues to strengthen seafood exports to global markets, particularly Taiwan and South Korea, by expanding the number of approved fish processing units. The latest development saw 33 additional Fish Processing Units (UPI) officially receiving approval numbers from the competent authorities of both countries. This milestone reflects close inter-authority coordination and joint pre-border inspections, ensuring Indonesian seafood products meet strict international standards on sanitation, hygiene, and food safety. The approval process is conducted exclusively through recognized competent authorities, reinforcing confidence in the quality and safety of Indonesia’s fisheries products.
With these new approvals, the total number of Indonesian UPI eligible to export now stands at 710 units for South Korea and 711 units for Taiwan. The KKP expects this expansion to significantly enhance export competitiveness and contribute positively to national foreign exchange earnings. Export performance to both markets has shown a consistent upward trend, supported by strong demand ahead of Lunar New Year 2026. In 2025, seafood exports to South Korea reached 26,107 tons valued at approximately USD 87.3 million (IDR 1.37 trillion), while exports to Taiwan totaled 57,308 tons worth around USD 106.3 million (IDR 1.78 trillion). Key products include shrimp cracker pellets, dried seaweed, frozen surimi, and red shrimp for South Korea, as well as live shellfish, frozen squid, and tilapia belly meat for Taiwan.
