The Batam City Government recently welcomed a working visit from a delegation of the Malaysia International Marketing and Trade Council (MIMTC) at the Mayor’s Office on Wednesday (21/1/2026). This meeting marked an initial step toward exploring bilateral trade cooperation between Batam and Malaysia. Representatives of the Batam administration, including officials acting for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, greeted the MIMTC delegation led by Zuber Bin Hj Bakri. Batam officials expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s interest in partnering with Batam as a strategic partner in regional trade development.
In his remarks, the Batam government official highlighted that Batam continues to be a key destination for foreign investment, especially from neighbouring Malaysia, supported by the city’s strategic location along major international trade routes and its growing industrial infrastructure. The Batam government said it is committed to creating expansive space for mutually beneficial trade collaboration and is ready to provide facilitation for Malaysian businesses interested in exploring market opportunities in Batam. Meanwhile, the Malaysian delegation also expressed strong interest from Malaysian businesses in key sectors in Batam, viewing the visit as a commitment to expand marketing networks for products and services in Indonesia, with Batam serving as a primary gateway. Discussions focused on expanding trade volumes of key commodities, investment opportunities in industrial and service sectors, and simplifying cross-regional supply chains. The meeting concluded with the exchange of gifts symbolizing friendship and both sides’ commitment to strengthening communication and future collaboration.
