Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo expressed his hope that the Tapal Kuda region — which includes Lumajang, Jember, Bondowoso, Situbondo, and Banyuwangi in East Java — will become a key driver of Indonesia’s economic future, leveraging strategic collaboration with Bank Indonesia’s regional office. He emphasized that Bank Indonesia should act as a primary partner for local governments to turn Tapal Kuda into a center of national and people-centered economic growth. To achieve this, Warjiyo highlighted five core roles for Bank Indonesia, including maintaining price stability to keep inflation in check, boosting regional economic growth by tapping into the agricultural potential of the area, and supporting the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) so they can compete nationally and internationally.
In addition to price stability and UMKM support, Warjiyo noted the importance of strengthening people’s economy and Islamic finance, as well as promoting digitalization of payment systems through tools like QRIS and BI-FAST to improve local government revenue collection. He also reaffirmed Bank Indonesia’s commitment to be a strategic advisor and partner for local administrations in facing economic challenges, including food security, higher economic growth, and quality currency circulation. The ceremony also marked the official inauguration of Iqbal Reza Nugraha as the new Head of Bank Indonesia’s Jember Representative Office, underscoring the central bank’s role in supporting sustainable and inclusive economic development in eastern East Java.
