Trade Minister: Indonesia’s Rebar Export Door to Australia Opens Again

Indonesia’s Trade Ministry reported that the Australian government has officially terminated its antidumping investigation into hot-rolled deformed steel reinforcing bar (rebar) imported from Indonesia, reopening export opportunities that were previously hampered by the probe. According to the Australia Anti-Dumping Commission’s Termination Report issued on December 16, 2025, the calculated dumping margin for Indonesian rebar was only 1.3%, which falls below Australia’s de minimis threshold of 2%. Because of this, Indonesian rebar products will not be subject to anti-dumping duties, allowing exporters to access the Australian market again without additional tariffs. Minister of Trade Budi Santoso expressed hope that this decision would help restore exports that were stalled during the investigation and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesian steel products in Australia.

Acting Director General of Foreign Trade Tommy Andana emphasized that ending the antidumping investigation reinforces Indonesia’s ability to maintain export market access, especially amid the growing use of trade protection instruments globally. He highlighted the importance of compliance and cooperation from Indonesian businesses during such investigations to defend their interests effectively. The Trade Ministry also acknowledged and appreciated the cooperative stance of Indonesian exporters throughout the process, which contributed to an objective and fair outcome. Australia had begun the antidumping investigation into rebar imports from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam on September 24, 2024; for Indonesia, this was the second such review following a similar case in 2017 that concluded in 2018 without duties.
