Trade Ministry Says Four Trade Agreements Could Boost Export Performance in 2026

The Indonesian Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has stated that four strategic international trade agreements have the potential to strengthen the country’s export performance in 2026. According to the ministry, these agreements include the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), the Indonesia–Canada Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA), the Indonesia–Peru Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement (IP-CEPA), and the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-EAEU FTA). These trade accords are expected to expand market access and reduce or eliminate tariffs for Indonesian products, providing exporters with improved competitiveness in key global markets. In addition to tariff benefits, the agreements aim to simplify trade procedures and enhance economic cooperation, thus creating a more conducive environment for Indonesian businesses to export goods and services more efficiently.

Kemendag officials believe that the implementation of these agreements will encourage stronger export performance by diversifying export markets and opening new opportunities beyond traditional destinations. For example, the IEU-CEPA is anticipated to significantly enhance access to the large European market by lowering trade barriers and potentially increasing demand for Indonesian agricultural products, manufactured goods, and other export commodities. Similarly, the other agreements are expected to support exports to North America (via Canada), Latin America (via Peru), and the Eurasian region (via the EAEU). By taking advantage of these agreements, Indonesian exporters—including small and medium-sized enterprises—could increase their presence in international markets, supporting broader economic growth and strengthening Indonesia’s export sector in 2026.
