The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of Indonesia partnered with the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), under the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), to accelerate renewable energy development and reduce coal usage. The collaboration highlighted innovative policy recommendations, including adjusting renewable energy pricing to reflect falling technology costs, simplifying project approvals, and expanding transmission networks near renewable sources to enhance energy competitiveness and security.
The initiative also explores market-based coal pricing, early retirement of coal-fired power plants, and mechanisms to incentivize renewable energy investments. Policymakers, utilities, financial institutions, and industry representatives participated in discussions to operationalize these measures, aiming to create a sustainable, equitable, and investment-friendly framework for Indonesia’s energy transition.
