Indonesia has maintained its status as a net exporter of fishery products, reporting a substantial trade balance surplus of US$4.53 billion for the period of January to October 2025. This figure represents a 2.9% increase from the previous period, confirming the sector's robust performance. Acting Director General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products, Machmud, stated that the surplus resulted from exports totaling US$5.07 billion, against imports of only US$0.54 billion, which is about 10.6% of the total export value.
The export growth was broad-based, with significant gains in key markets. Exports to the United States grew by 2.6% to reach US$1,604 million, while exports to ASEAN countries saw a remarkable increase of 22.7% (US$811.64 million). Exports to Japan and the European Union also rose by 2.3% and 8.3%, respectively. From a commodity perspective, shrimp exports increased by 8.6%, tuna-skipjack by 2.6%, and squid-cuttlefish-octopus by 1.9%. Furthermore, the sector’s positive momentum is supported by strong investment, which reached Rp7.8 trillion in Q3 2025, primarily channeled into processing, cultivation, and marketing.
