The Indonesian government has confirmed that starting in December 2025, it will significantly increase its crude oil imports from the United States. This move is part of a broader strategy tied to reciprocal tariff negotiations with the U.S., according to Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. While Indonesia has long imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the U.S., it is now expanding to include crude oil to diversify its energy supply.
Pertamina, Indonesia’s state energy company, has already calculated a potential volume for these U.S. crude imports, but precise quotas remain undisclosed as regulatory frameworks are still being finalized. The imports are being directed into Pertamina’s domestic refineries — for example, its Balikpapan refinery — once the government’s import regulations are fully in place.
