The Indonesian Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, alongside West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi, officially released a shipment of gambir (a plant extract) for export to India at the Governor’s Palace in Padang. The exporter, PT Salimbado Jaya Indonesia, is sending 27 tons of gambir, valued at USD 102,600, to the Indian market.
This export marks a positive sign for the recovery of global demand for Sumatra Barat’s gambir, a commodity in which the region is a major player. Furthermore, the Minister of Trade emphasized that advancing the downstream processing (hilirisasi) of gambir is key to strengthening its competitiveness on the global stage.
