Indonesia to Boost Tourism MSMEs and Expand Culinary Diplomacy in 2026

Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry plans to advance tourism-focused MSMEs and creative industries in 2026 through curated attractions, expanded business mentoring, and strengthened programs such as Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet and Wellness. Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana noted that MSMEs make up 96.3% of the 2.55 million registered tourism enterprises, covering hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and leisure services. To support this ecosystem, the ministry will widen competency-based training and develop new travel patterns centered on cultural heritage, Muslim-friendly tourism, and marine experiences, ensuring MSMEs are fully integrated into these offerings. Strengthening MSMEs in key regions—including North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, and Yogyakarta—will also be coordinated through regional Implementing Authority Bodies.

Widiyanti emphasized the expansion of S’RASA, a program designed to elevate Indonesian cuisine globally through standardized menus, curated culinary concepts, and support for overseas Indonesian restaurants. She highlighted that showcasing MSME products and creative works in tourism helps foster emotional connections that appeal to international visitors. The ministry also committed to providing more opportunities for MSMEs and artists through promotional events. Commission VII Chairman Saleh Partaonan Daulay encouraged more structured MSME empowerment initiatives and the optimization of local commodities such as coffee and natural resources to further enhance Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness.
