A micro, small, and medium enterprise (UMKM) in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, is preparing to export 200 kg of its specialty shrimp paste (locally known as terasi or belacan) to Sydney, Australia. According to the Head of the City’s Cooperatives and Trade Office, Andika Saputra, the export process is currently underway with the Quarantine Agency and Customs to ensure smooth and sustainable shipments. 

This marks the first time this product will be sent abroad, and officials hope it’s just the beginning. They plan to continue expanding exports of terasi and other processed fishery products via national exhibitions and quality-improvement programs to meet export standards. The shrimp paste from Pangkalpinang is praised for its fragrant and delicious flavor, commonly used as a kitchen seasoning or in sambal terasi.
