Indonesia is pursuing an ambitious goal of achieving eight percent economic growth while staying on track to reach net-zero emissions by 2060, according to Axel Priambodo, Senior Policy Analyst at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. Speaking at the Indonesia Pavilion during COP30 in Belém, Brazil, he emphasized that this level of growth will require a substantial and reliable energy supply, leveraging Indonesia’s vast resources, from the world’s largest nickel reserves to rising renewable energy investments. The country aims to become a global hub for clean technology manufacturing by harnessing its end-to-end clean energy value chains.
Priambodo noted that realizing this vision will require significant international financing, estimating a need for roughly US$10 billion per year over the next decade, alongside public funding. To support these efforts, the government has established the National Energy Transition and Green Economy Task Force to align policies, fiscal instruments, and project pipelines, while linking national initiatives with international frameworks such as the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). He stressed that effective leadership and stakeholder trust are crucial for mobilizing financing and implementing Indonesia’s green growth strategy.
