Indonesia is enhancing its national halal ecosystem to strengthen its position as a key player in the global halal supply chain, according to Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH). The initiative aims to transform Indonesia from being primarily a consumer market into a major contributor influencing international halal trade. Halal is increasingly recognized worldwide not only for religious compliance but also as a standard for quality, safety, and health, becoming a significant driver of economic growth.
The halal industry’s reach is expanding beyond food to include fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism, fueled by rising consumer awareness and the global adoption of halal lifestyles. Haikal emphasized collaboration among government agencies, businesses, academia, and research institutions to strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness. Efforts focus on accelerating MSME halal certification, improving product quality, and ensuring transparency through clear halal labeling. With these strategies, Indonesia aims to become a global halal hub, making the halal sector a key driver of inclusive and sustainable national growth.
