The Indonesian government is finalizing new regulations to enable direct imports of oil and gas worth USD 15 billion (around IDR 250.8 trillion) from the United States as part of a reciprocal tariff agreement. The regulation, in the form of a presidential or government decree, will allow PT Pertamina (Persero) to procure energy directly from US companies without a bidding process. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlighted that this initiative aims to strengthen bilateral trade while accelerating Indonesia’s energy imports from the US.
The policy is expected to help reduce the US-Indonesia trade deficit, currently around USD 18 billion, and ensure energy security with a planned import volume of 15 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe). This streamlined import approach reflects Indonesia’s proactive engagement in international trade, fostering positive economic growth and expanding investment opportunities for both nations.
