A shipment of 18.5 tons of Liberica coffee beans from South Sumatra (Sumatra Selatan) has been exported to Malaysia, managed by the regional quarantine agency. The beans originate from four key production centers: Jarai, Kikim, and Tanjung Sirih in the district of Lahat, and Semendo in the district of Muara Enim. Prior to export, every batch underwent physical inspection and laboratory testing to ensure freedom from quarantine-plant-pests (OPTK) and compliance with Malaysia’s phytosanitary requirements.
The export demonstrates the strong potential of South Sumatra as a producer of high-value agricultural commodities sought by global markets. The regional quarantine service stresses its role in safeguarding biosecurity while facilitating international trade by issuing certificates that confirm product safety and market eligibility. It also emphasizes cooperation among producers, local government and the quarantine body as a key factor for efficient, competitive export processes.
