Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have commenced discussions aimed at enhancing tourism collaboration and increasing travel flows between the two nations. During a meeting in Riyadh on 8 November 2025, Indonesia’s Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana and Saudi Arabia’s Tourism Minister Ahmed bin Aqeel Al Khateeb discussed ways to leverage Indonesia’s strong presence among religious travellers to Saudi Arabia by encouraging reciprocal visits of Saudi tourists to Indonesia. Wardhana highlighted that Indonesia’s rich natural and cultural heritage offers attractive opportunities for visitors during long holidays.
The ministers emphasised that the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries provide a solid foundation for expanding cooperation in tourism. They reaffirmed their commitment to a previously signed memorandum of understanding covering human-resource development, tourist exchange, and investment in tourism infrastructure. Saudi Arabia welcomed Indonesia’s proactive stance and expressed full support for the joint initiatives. The meeting coincided with Indonesia’s participation in the 26th Session of the United Nations Tourism General Assembly held in Riyadh, where Indonesia promoted its “Wonderful Indonesia : Go Beyond Ordinary” campaign at the World Travel Market in London, using creative branding to raise awareness of its attractions abroad.
