Indonesia has claimed the top position as the country with the largest investment in the global halal industry. According to the State of The Global Islamic Economy Report (SGIER) 2024/2025, Indonesia attracted USD 1.6 billion in halal industry investments during 2023–2024, representing 27% of the total global investment of USD 5.8 billion from the five major countries: Indonesia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Malaysia.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that this achievement reflects growing global trust in Indonesia as a halal investment hub and a positive growth trajectory for the national halal ecosystem. While Indonesia ranks 9th in global halal product exports to Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries at USD 12.33 billion in 2023, imports remain higher at USD 29.64 billion. The government is addressing this gap by strengthening collaboration with the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and supporting policies to enhance competitiveness, develop domestic industrial capacity, and increase exports. Indonesia’s rich natural resources, expanding industrial base, and large domestic market provide a strong comparative advantage for becoming a leading halal producer and exporter globally.
