Indonesia has emerged as one of the top five ceramic producers in the world, with a production capacity of 625 million square meters. The country’s ceramic exports are also showing promising growth this year, reflecting the sector’s expanding global presence.
According to Taufiek Bawazier, Director General of the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industries (IKFT) at the Ministry of Industry, total investment in Indonesia’s ceramic industry has reached IDR 224 trillion, supporting around 40,000 jobs across various segments of the production chain. Between 2020 and 2024, investment in the sector totaled IDR 20.3 trillion and provided employment for 10,000 people. With ongoing infrastructure development and rising domestic demand, ceramic consumption in Indonesia remains relatively low at 2.2 square meters per capita, below Malaysia and Thailand at 3 square meters and the global average of 2.5. Indonesian ceramics have been exported to multiple countries, achieving export values of USD 31 million (IDR 517.7 billion) from January to August 2025. The government continues to support the industry through fiscal and non-fiscal policies, energy efficiency measures, and Green Industry Standards to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Collaborative international efforts, including forums like WCTF 2025, aim to foster innovation, strengthen partnerships, and enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s ceramic industry.
