Government Committed to Accelerating Development of Indonesia's Digital Economy

The Indonesian government, through Minister of Coordinating Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, affirmed its commitment to advancing the digital economy as a crucial element in Indonesia's transformation strategy. This commitment was highlighted during the High-Level Thematic Roundtable on Digital Innovations for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, held virtually as part of The 80th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. Airlangga emphasized Indonesia's focus on fostering a productive, advanced, and high-value-added business ecosystem by prioritizing the digitalization of key economic sectors. This includes empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and technology startups, along with enhancing cybersecurity measures.To prepare for the future digital landscape, Indonesia is intensifying its efforts in comprehensive research and technology innovation. The government has introduced the White Paper on Digital Economic Development 2030, a collaborative strategy involving various stakeholders to chart the course for Indonesia's digital future.


Additionally, Indonesia is collaborating to improve financial inclusion by partnering with relevant authorities to enhance access to financial services for all segments of society. Regulatory and governance frameworks are also being refined to ensure a fair and healthy digital economy, with a focus on consumer protection and national security.In terms of human capital development, Indonesia has launched the Kartu Prakerja Program, a government-to-people platform aimed at enhancing work competencies and entrepreneurship skills. This program targets job seekers, current workers seeking skill enhancement, and those affected by layoffs, including MSME actors.During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kartu Prakerja Program serves a dual purpose of enhancing competencies and supporting the purchasing power of affected communities. It also contributes to other Sustainable Development Goals, such as quality education, gender equality, poverty alleviation, and lifelong learning opportunities. The Kartu Prakerja Program has benefitted 18.7 million Indonesians across various regions, with a notable participation rate of 51% females, 12% individuals above 50 years old, and 3% persons with disabilities. In conclusion, Minister Airlangga expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share Indonesia's digital economy experience and its role in achieving sustainable development goals.
