Indonesian Coffee Dominates the Egyptian Market, Export Value Reaches IDR 1.46 Trillion

Indonesian coffee products have successfully dominated the coffee market in Egypt, with export values totaling USD 92.96 million or IDR 1.46 trillion in 2023. This export value constitutes 42.69% of the coffee market share in Egypt, making Indonesia the largest coffee exporter to Egypt globally. According to Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, this indicates a strong consumer preference for Indonesian coffee products in Egypt, attributed to their distinct aroma and flavor. The Indonesian Embassy in Egypt continues to strengthen the partnership between Indonesian and Egyptian coffee businesses. Several Indonesian coffee exporting companies, including PT Asal Jaya, PT Taman Delta Indonesia, PT Olam Indonesia, PT Golden Coffee Bean, PT Asia Makmur, and PT Ulubelu Cofco Abadi, contribute significantly to this trade. Additionally, PT Sarimakmur Tunggal Mandiri, PT Vastav, PT Sulotco Jaya Abadi, and PT Kans Agro Indonesia are also involved in exporting coffee to Egypt.

Rauf highlighted the increasing demand for coffee in Egypt, especially for robusta coffee beans, making it a highly potential market for Indonesian exporters. Al Amal for Agricultural Crops has played a significant role in importing robusta coffee beans from Indonesia to Egypt. Director of Al Amal for Agricultural Crops, Ragab Shehata, stated that his company imported over 4,500 tons of Indonesian coffee beans, particularly robusta beans, in 2023. They aim to import 5,000 tons of Indonesian robusta coffee beans worth USD 21 million in 2024. Meanwhile, M. Syahran Bhakti S, the Trade Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, emphasized Egypt's high demand for coffee. Vietnam is Indonesia's main competitor in exporting coffee products to Egypt, followed by Brazil. Egypt represents the second-largest destination for Indonesian coffee exports after the United States. It is projected that Indonesian coffee exporters can meet the demand in Egypt, reaching USD 95 million or IDR 1.5 trillion in 2024. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's coffee exports worldwide reached USD 1.612 billion or IDR 25.5 trillion. Indonesian coffee in the Egyptian market accounts for 5.24% of Indonesia's global coffee market share.
