West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has successfully exported three tons of mangosteens to China following rigorous certification by the NTB Quarantine Office. The export, managed by PT. Bintang Agro Sentosa in Lingsar, West Lombok, involved direct shipment from Zainuddin Abdul Majid International Airport, Lombok, with a transit stop at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, reaching China on Wednesday evening. Agus Mugiyanto, Head of NTB Quarantine, highlighted the meticulous certification process, including physical inspections, ensuring compliance with export standards and freedom from Plant Quarantine Pests, leading to the issuance of phytosanitary certificates. NTB has exhibited a growing trend in mangosteen exports to China, with six shipments in 2024 totaling 18.5 tons, amounting to an export value of IDR 1.15 billion. This reflects NTB's commitment to diversifying its export portfolio beyond its dominant mining sector, which constitutes 98% of its exports, primarily driven by PT Amnt Mineral (Amman).
However, non-mining exports from NTB remain marginal, comprising only 2%-3% of total exports. According to BPS data, mining exports from NTB reached USD 229.89 million in February 2024, accounting for 99.65% of total exports. Conversely, non-mining exports such as salt, sulfur, limestone, jewelry, various chemicals, and oilseeds constituted only a fraction of total exports. NTB's endeavor to broaden its export base includes potential commodities such as vanilla, coffee, pearls, and fisheries, underscoring its efforts to stimulate economic growth and reduce dependence on mining exports. NTB Quarantine's commitment to facilitating trade by providing efficient certification services underscores the province's determination to enhance its competitiveness in the global market while adhering to stringent quality and safety standards.
