Governor: The Agricultural Sector Supports North Sulawesi's Economic Growth

North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey said the agricultural sector made a positive contribution to the economic growth of the area with a population of more than 2.6 million people. "Therefore, we give our appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture for carrying out the socialization of the food sector supervision program in this area," said Governor Olly in North Minahasa Regency, Wednesday. The agricultural sector, according to him, made a positive contribution to regional economic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, North Sulawesi's economic growth was recorded at minus 0.9%, in 2021 it will increase to 4.17%, and the agricultural sector contributes 23%. The stretching of the agricultural sector during this pandemic has something to do with the enthusiasm of the people who are returning to 'ba kobong' (back to farming), reopening agricultural lands that have not been managed. "Those who have lost their jobs in urban areas due to the COVID-19 pandemic are returning to gardening, farming," he said. Until now, he said, villages were still passionate about managing agricultural land so that the benefits were very good for life.
"Thank you to the Ministry of Agriculture for providing assistance for deep coconut seeds, early coconuts and nutmeg seeds," said the Governor. He is optimistic that the assistance provided by the Ministry of Agriculture will boost nutmeg and coconut productivity, thus having an impact on improving the welfare of farmers.
