Indonesia's fisheries trade saw a 9.1% increase in surplus in 2024

In 2024, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) recorded a 9.1% increase in the trade balance surplus of fisheries commodities compared to 2023. This growth was driven by a surge in export values, reaching USD 5.95 billion, marking a 5.7% increase, and a decline in import values by 19.8% compared to 2023. The main fisheries export commodities include shrimp, skipjack tuna, squid-cuttlefish-egg, clam-crab, seaweed, layur-gulama, tilapia, lobster, and pearls. Significant export value increases are seen in 2024, particularly in the skipjack tuna with export value of USD 1.03 billion, squid-cuttlefish with export value of USD 874.12 million, king crab with export value of USD 513.35 million, layur-gulama with export value of USD 100.96 million, and tilapia with export value of USD 93.51 million.

In the export destination countries for Indonesian fishery products in 2024 are the United States with an export value of USD 1.90 billion, China with an export value of USD 1.24 billion, the ASEAN region with an export value of USD 856.87 million, Japan with an export value of USD 598.75 million and the European Union with an export value of USD 414.36 million. Various KKP promotion strategies supported the increase in exports through participation in Seafood Expo North America (SENA), Seafood Expo Global (SEG), Nusatic, Indo Fisheries 2024 Expo & Forum, and Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI).  The growing international recognition of the high quality of Indonesia's seafood products, both domestically and internationally, is expected to increase the number of destinations for Indonesia's seafood exports in line with its competitiveness and growing global demand.
