The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) emphasized that the presence of the upstream oil and gas industry significantly drives local economic growth. According to Hudi D. Suryodipuro, Head of the SKK Migas Program and Communication Division, this industry plays a vital role in generating an economic ripple effect for surrounding communities. He cited ExxonMobil as a prime example of how upstream oil and gas operations contribute to regional development, particularly in East Java’s Cepu and Bojonegoro. Sustainable growth in this sector, Hudi added, is essential for ongoing contributions to the national economy.
Senior Vice President of Production at ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL), Muhammad Nurdin, highlighted that 99.5% of the workforce operating the Banyu Urip Field consists of Indonesians, showcasing the country’s rapid human resource development. He noted that compared to ExxonMobil's global operations, Indonesia stands out for its swift progress in building local expertise. The Cepu Block, a key contributor to national oil production, currently produces 155,000 barrels per day. To address production decline, a drilling project for seven new wells is underway, with two already online since 2024 and five more expected by the end of 2025, ensuring stable output in line with state budget targets.
