Indonesia’s furniture industry continues to thrive as a labor-intensive, export-oriented sector with a significant impact on the non-oil and gas economy. Bayu Fajar Nugroho, Director of Small and Medium Industries for Food, Furniture, and Building Materials at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), highlighted that the sector contributes 1.73% to non-oil and gas industries. To boost exports and strengthen the domestic market, Kemenperin supports initiatives like the Jogja International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (JIFFINA), held from March 8-11, 2025, at Jogja Expo Center. In 2024, Indonesia’s furniture exports reached USD1.91 billion, marking a 3.2% increase from the previous year, with key markets including the US, the EU, and Japan, while South Asia and Africa emerge as new export destinations.
Global furniture demand reached USD 660.35 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow by 49%, offering Indonesia significant expansion opportunities. Currently, the country holds only a 0.28% market share, leaving ample room for growth. Additionally, domestic market conditions remain favorable, with the industrial confidence index recorded at 53.15 in 2024, signaling continued industry expansion. As Indonesia strengthens its presence in the global market, collaboration between industry players and government support will be crucial in maximizing these opportunities.
