The Ministry of Industry targets a 7.29% growth in the manufacturing sector by 2025 and 8.59% by 2028. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that this growth target is crucial to support the national economic growth target of 8%. He emphasized that the manufacturing sector should contribute 17.96% to Indonesia’s GDP in 2024 and increase to 20.92% by 2029. To achieve this, the ministry plans to move quickly and effectively, ensuring a careful and responsible budget of around IDR 2.519 trillion for the sector. Agus highlighted that manufacturing remains the largest contributor to Indonesia's export performance, with non-oil and gas processing industries accounting for 74.25% of total exports in 2024.
In line with this, the Ministry of Industry is promoting the export of high-value products, particularly those resulting from nickel downstreaming, such as stainless steel and other metal products. The ministry also aims to diversify export products by encouraging industries based on agro-commodities like cocoa and coconut. Additionally, the government is focused on the downstreaming of raw materials such as silica sand for semiconductor manufacturing and various oil and gas-based products. Minister Agus reiterated the importance of creating a business-friendly environment and pro-business regulations to attract investment, positioning Indonesia as a hub for production and export. He emphasized that increasing exports, particularly through downstreaming, is key to building the nation’s economy by adding value to domestic raw materials.
