The electronics industry has played a crucial role in driving growth within Indonesia’s manufacturing sector. In the third quarter of 2024, sectors such as Metal Goods; Computers, Electronics, Optics; and Electrical Equipment saw a significant growth rate of 7.29%. Additionally, Indonesia’s electronics exports reached USD 10.07 billion, largely driven by telecommunications equipment, household electronics, electrical equipment, and components. A notable achievement was the export of mobile phones, handheld computers, and tablets (HKT), which reached USD 277 million in 2024. "These achievements highlight Indonesia's ability to export high-tech products, such as smartphones. The Ministry of Industry appreciates the companies in the HKT sector that have made Indonesia their production base, such as PT. Samsung Electronics Indonesia," said Setia Diarta, Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industries.
Setia also highlighted the importance of increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in electronic products, particularly mobile phones and tablets. The Ministry of Industry is committed to promoting higher TKDN to support the growth of electronic product exports to global markets. PT. Samsung Electronics Indonesia's efforts to meet TKDN requirements not only strengthen the local industry but also create jobs and facilitate technology transfer, contributing to Indonesia’s competitive edge. The current TKDN policy mandates a minimum local content of 35% for mobile phones and tablets, aimed at boosting local industry participation and strengthening the domestic manufacturing ecosystem. PT. Samsung Electronics Indonesia’s SM-A356E model achieved a remarkable 40.30% TKDN. Since the introduction of the 35% TKDN threshold, Indonesia’s HKT industry has grown rapidly, with domestic production in 2023 reaching 50 million units and imports significantly decreasing. In addition, PT. Samsung’s export performance was impressive, with 1.56 million units shipped to ASEAN countries in 2024, showcasing Indonesia’s increasing strength in the global electronics market.
