According to Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the country's plastic imports totaled USD 233.15 billion in Q1 2024, significantly surpassing exports of USD 103.47 million. Domestic producers currently fulfill only 50-60% of the national demand for plastic raw materials. This shortfall underlines the importance of Plastics & Rubber Indonesia 2024, the nation’s largest international exhibition showcasing innovations in plastic and rubber processing technologies. The 35th edition highlights sustainable solutions to align the industry with global environmental demands. With over 20,000 square meters of exhibition space, the event draws professionals and businesses seeking to transform the plastic and rubber sectors into more resilient, productive, and eco-friendly industries.
Meysia Stephannie, Event Director of PT Pamerindo Indonesia, emphasized the event's role in advancing national industry ecosystems and competitiveness. Expected to attract over 15,000 visitors in four days, the exhibition includes seminars and panel discussions on global trends, policies, and industry challenges. Support from various associations underscores the industry's collective commitment to sustainability and the circular economy. Ir. Heru Kustanto, Head of the Domestic Product Utilization Center at the Ministry of Industry, highlighted the government’s focus on boosting domestic production through import substitution and investment in petrochemicals. Industry players are expanding capacity and introducing innovative materials, such as advanced pellets and granules, to meet growing domestic demand and drive overall sector growth.
