The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) through the Directorate General of Plantations initiated and immediately launched the Plantation Seed Bank (BaBe Bun) program to strengthen the logistics development of domestic plantation commodity seeds to achieve accelerated production and export increases. This breakthrough program is based on collaboration, participation and solidarity with relevant stakeholders, in which plantation business actors actively participate in allocating their profits for seed supply.
The Director General of Plantations, Andi Nur Alam Syah explained that BaBe Bun is a manifestation of the Minister of Agriculture's direction to all levels of the Directorate General of Plantations to work to develop agriculture through the sky, one of which is not limited by limited state budget funding. But it must also be able to mobilize the private sector to participate in plantation development.
"BaBe Bun is a logistics container for national plantation seeds that does not rely on and burden the State Budget. Imagine that our need for seeds is very large, it is very impossible if it is fully realized from the State Budget, while our State Budget is limited. So that the supply of seeds comes from plantation business actors," he stated. said Andi Nur Alam Syah during his visit to Solo, Friday (17/2/2023).
He said plantation business actors who are partners with the Ministry of Agriculture are required to allocate profit sharing or from CSR funds whose value is not that heavy, namely 1 percent for nursery activities as seed stock owned by BaBe Bun. The presence of BaBe Bun also obliges every partner business actor to have a seed nursery, so that they no longer rely on the state budget.
"BaBe Bun is a breakthrough in finding funding sources for providing national seeds other than the State Budget, such as CSR funds, private investment, village funds, community forestry development, reclamation activities and other sources of funds," he said.
"This is of course carried out in accordance with regulations and for use in plantation area development activities which also have a positive impact on business actors. And the most important thing is that the implementation of Babe Bun involves the BPKP so that supervision is measurable and meets targets," Andi asked.
Therefore, Andi emphasized that in order to build Babe Bun, the Directorate General of Plantations builds harmony and synchronization with business actors. This is because the development of plantations through improved seed logistics must be carried out with an action plan for plantation development that is systematically directed and sustainable.
"We need to invite and open as wide a space as possible for plantation business actors, private companies and the wider community who want to contribute to developing plantations through Babe Bun," he said.
