Exports of Glassware for Table Products Will Strengthen

Exports of Indonesian glassware for table products to Brazil are predicted to strengthen. The reason is, this product is finally officially free from the application of AntiDumping Import Duty (BMAD) from Brazil. Previously, the investigation into the extension of the application of BMAD for this product was officially stopped by the Brazilian Authorities on June 29, 2022. The investigation began on December 23, 2021 for products with tariff posts of 7013.49.00, 7013.28.00, and 7013.37.00 originating from Indonesia, Argentina, and China. Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said that the export of Indonesian Glassware for Table Products to Brazil was finally free from the implementation of the Brazilian BMAD. Since March 1, 2011 or more than a decade ago, Indonesian export products have been subject to bmad of US$ 0.15 per kg by Brazil. "This achievement should be grateful considering that the termination of this investigation was carried out in just six months since it began," he said in a written statement, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/8).

The trade minister explained that this decision was taken by the Brazilian authorities based on the results of the investigation carried out. In the investigation report, the Brazilian Authority said that there was an incompleteness/inaccuracy of the data submitted by the domestic industry. This affects the reliability and validity of the data including with the claims of losses suffered by the Brazilian domestic industry. "Finally, the Brazilian authorities decided to close this investigation without an extension of the application of the BMAD," he said. Meanwhile, Acting Director General of Foreign Trade Veri Anggrijono revealed that during the investigation process, the Government of Indonesia and related exporters have taken proactive steps to get positive results. He explained that the collaboration of the relevant ministries, the Indonesian Embassy brasilia, and exporters finally bore fruit with the termination of the case without a recommendation for an extension of the implementation of the BMAD. "After more than 10 years of indonesia's glassware for table market access to Brazil was hampered by the implementation of BMAD, now our products are ready to compete again in the Brazilian market," said Veri.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that in the January-May 2022 period, the export value of Indonesian glassware for tables to Brazil posted a figure of US$ 281.9 thousand, down 69.5% compared to the same period last year. Throughout 2021, the export value of Indonesian glassware for table to Brazil reached US$ 2.2 million. Meanwhile, in 2018, Indonesia managed to record exports of US$ 7.6 million. Director of Trade Security Natan Kambuno added that the momentum of this success must be mandated by Indonesian exporters. Especially to improve the performance of exports that had been disrupted to Brazil. "However, we must remain vigilant, considering that our trading partner countries are increasingly aggressively implementing trade remedies instruments in order to protect their domestic industries," concluded Natan.
